Every now and then I run into the following problem with Texshop resulting in a catastrophic loss of work. For some inexplicable reason Texshop automatically moves an open, active document into the trash. Consequently if I delete my trash, the open document closes and is irretrievably lost.

I accept the criticism of checking my trash before I delete it, but frankly I am not in the habit of going through my trash "just to make sure" - be it software or otherwise. Nor am I in the habit of putting anything in the trash that I didn't intend to throw away. Consequently I see this as the software developers stupidity and not my own. Bluntly put: under what circumstances would it be reasonable to trash an open, active document?
